Ayahuasca Group Retreats

If you are planning to take ayahuasca in a group for the first time, this page can help you to get clarity about the preparation and process during a ceremony night.

Decision and preparation

A key aspect we want to emphasize is the decision to embark on a journey with the Master Plants. There are many paths to our core: the medicines we use at Safe Spirit are one possible path. It is important to be aware of the power and potency of plants and to take personal responsibility for making an informed decision in accordance with your inner voice. If you would like to embark on the journey with us, we will organize a free initial consultation in which we can get to know each other, you can inform us about any medication and we can clarify any questions you may have. We will also inform you about the preparation phase within the weeks before the retreat. This includes, among other things, the physical and mental-spiritual diet, which we will discuss and prepare with you individually.

Process support

At Safe Spirit, a lot of value is placed on the personal preparation of the participant. Questions can be asked in advance via e-mail and Whatsapp. At the beginning of the retreat, a detailed discussion about the concerns of the participant takes place on site. It is important to us to get to know each person better so that there is a trusting atmosphere before taking the medicinal plants. Accompanying persons are always present during the entire retreat. Even after the retreat or we are available for questions and to support the participants.

Integrate experience

Group and individual sessions with our therapists take place one day after the healing ceremony. In these discussions, the experiences from the previous night are processed and exchanged with other participants. Feedback from the group is an essential part of integration to better understand yourself and your experience from the ceremony. One-on-one meetings with our escorts can be conducted. With Safe Spirit, integration is also made easier by long-term process support (online), which we offer.

Procedure of a retreat

On the first day, participants arrive at the retreat location. We recommend planning enough time on arrival so that you can prepare for the coming days in peace (2-3 hours before the start of the ceremony). As soon as you have arrived in the house, a member of our team will give you a warm welcome, and together with you you will fill out a questionnaire on your current well-being, previous illnesses and acute problems. You discuss your medical history or concerns together. Then we will show you our rooms and your sleeping place.

Before preparing for the ceremony, you can familiarize yourself with the premises, set up your sleeping space and chat with the other participants. Around 6 p.m. we will start preparing for the evening. There will be an introduction to the course of the evening, questions will be answered and each participant has the opportunity to introduce themselves and express their concerns in front of the group.

Then we give out Rapé, a shamanic snuff, and mentally prepare ourselves for taking it (relaxation and breathing exercises, meditation).

This is followed by the actual intake (toma) of the medicine. The participants are asked to take one at a time. After about 30 – 60 minutes the medicine starts to take effect. Now the actual healing ceremony begins. Music is played and smoke is smoked (including sage, palo santo, incense). More detailed information on the effects of medicinal plants can be found here (Ayahuasca information).

After about 1-2 hours, the participants will be asked if they would like to take a second portion of the healing drink. (Depending on well-being, a second portion can be taken voluntarily)
